Jade and Julian oneshot:
listen to the song when reading it
Julian’s POV:
“Happy Birthday to you!” My family and friends sang to Jade, who was now officially 16. I can’t believe it. I flew in from LA, my job as a choreographer, just to see my baby sister.
I’ve thought about it for months and months on what would be the perfect gift for her. I could never decide which one. Either one was too girly, or too boyish, or too big, or too small, or too expensive. I just couldn’t find the perfect gift until yesterday.
I was going through old songs on my ipod, and stumbled upon Orion by Frank Ocean. When we were little, That was all I would sing to her. “I remember when you were born, Ohh how happy I was!” I remember belting out and watching her giggle. That’s when it came to me, I would dance to her and present her a necklace with a heart that had an engraving on the back that said “to the best sister a boy could have.”
“Julian.” My mom said waking me from my thoughts. “Would you like to go first?”
“No mom, best for last!” I said with a smile. I watched as Jade opened all of her gifts, each time catching her off-guard, as she smiled as big as ever. Finally it came to be my turn. I was nervous “What if she doesn’t remember the song? What if she thinks the neckalce is ugly?” these thoughts popped into my mind ad I tried best to push them out.
“Mom could you plugs this in and play the song named Orion?” I asked, as my mom turned to put it in the iHome, as Jade looked at me confused. I sighed nervously. As the music began to play, she recognized it in an instant. As it played “I remember when you were born.” I turned to her and smiled. she had tears in her eyes.
I kept dancing on until it came to the part where it says “But promise big bro one thing, don’t go wasting time.” I stopped as the music played on and walked up to her, as tears streamed down her face. I gently put the necklace on her and scooped her up in a big hug and said “Happy Birthday baby sister.”
